What is The Shed Labrador West Makerspace?

Operated under the Canadian Cooperation Act, The Shed offers its services to members. We provide tools, workspaces, and knowledge to allow the ability to complete a multitude of different projects.

Why is it called The Shed?

We decided to name the project The Shed because it is where we store our tools, where we go to fix things or make something and where we hang out with our friends to work on projects.  The makerspace is basically a big shed.

Who is going to use this place?

Anyone with a desire to create, repair or learn new things.

Inventors, artists, crafters, tradespeople, engineers to name a few -  anyone within the age limits can access the space.

What will I have access to at The Shed?

What will be available at The Shed is dependant upon the support of the community and the availability of space. We are currently working hard on engaging the community to get these questions answered. Our goal is to be able to provide the following 10 spaces:

1. Creative workspaces :    Computer workstations with software for designing and editing.

2. General workstations:    Dedicated space for crafts, arts, or just tinkering with stuff.

3. Digital manufacturing:   3D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutter.

4. Electronics workshop:    Soldering, testing and programming of micro-controllers.

5. Textile workshop:           Sewing, embroidery, cutting.

6. Woodworking shop:       Planing, jointing, cutting, shaping & glueing wood and CNC routers.

7. Metalworking shop:       Cutting, machining, forming, welding and manual & CNC machines.

8. Tool library:                    Lending of tools for home projects.

9. Multimedia studio:        Digital video & photography, music recording.

10. Business incubator:     Small offices & workspaces with utilities to help startups succeed.
